The Perfect Ranch Dip with Shay's Ranch

The Perfect Ranch Dip with Shay's Ranch

Cool, creamy, herby and tangy — the homemade ranch that makes everything around it taste better. It takes about two minutes to stir together, and one mix does three jobs: a thick dip, a pourable dressing, or a drizzle. This is the one you'll come back to for every wing, goujon and blooming onion you make.

Makes a big bowl · 2 min, plus 30 min resting

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 4 tbsp sour cream
  • 3 tbsp buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp Shay's Ranch seasoning

Method

  1. Mix the base. In a bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream and Shay's Ranch until smooth.
  2. Loosen to taste. Add the buttermilk a little at a time until it's the thickness you want — see the three ways below.
  3. Rest (the secret step). Cover and rest in the fridge for 30 minutes so the flavour blooms — see Shay's Touch. Give it a stir before serving.
  4. Three ways to use it. THICK DIP: leave out most of the buttermilk — perfect for wings, goujons and a blooming onion. DRESSING: add all the buttermilk (and a splash more) for salads. DRIZZLE: thin further and spoon over loaded fries or tacos.

Shay's Touch of Magic

Here's the secret that separates a good ranch from a great one: make it ahead and give it 30 minutes in the fridge before you serve. That rest is when the herbs wake up and the whole thing goes from nice to "can I have the recipe?" Stir it once more before it hits the table. Two minutes of work, thirty minutes of patience, and you'll never buy a bottle again. — Shay
